Heartland Centers Learning Management System offers a free individual account with access to the courses in the course catalog, and tracks your progress as you move through your public health related training.

Welcome to the Learning Management System of the Heartland Centers (HC) for Public Health and Community Capacity Development. The Heartland Centers (HC) have developed the Learning Management System (LMS) to help achieve the goal of assessing and improving the preparedness and capacity of the public health workforce.
The LMS provides an opportunity for you to assess your own level of competency regarding various public health issues; develop a training plan and access competency-based courses and other materials to improve your competency; and a method for tracking and documenting your professional development. To respond to the dynamic public health environment, the HC Learning Management System will constantly evolve adding courses and information relevant to emerging challenges in the field.
The Heartland Public Health Education and Training Center and the Center for Public Health Preparedness contribute as part of the national systems of HRSA and CDC Centers through completion of national objectives regarding workforce and resource assessment, competency based program development, incentive and certification development, technology mediated communications and programming, and evaluation and research to determine workforce competence and capacity improvement.
Register for a Free Account Complete your initial assessment Choosing a Course from the Course Catalog Accessing Your Courses and Transcript To get started, click "Register with Us" in the left menu bar and fill in the registration form. You will select your own username and password. All asterisked fields are required. You do not need to fill in the agency portion of the registration screen. When finished, click "Submit Your Registration" at the bottom of the screen. If you do not advance to a "successful registration" screen, check the top of the registration screen to see if there are any red error messages regarding your form. Correct any errors, and click "Submit" again. Back to Top
After you register, click "Start Assessment". The Heartland Centers LMS is assessment based, meaning that you choose one or more roles that apply to your job or interest, and take an initial assessment. The courses in the LMS are linked to these assessments. The LMS will automatically recommend courses to you based upon your completed assessment.
For your initial assessment, limit yourself to one or two roles only. You can always add more later by clicking "My Assessments" in the left menu bar. To view the skills associated with a role, click "view" and a pop-up window will appear that lists the skills. After you have made your selections, click "Continue" at the bottom of the page.
Next, you will be directed to your assessment page. You will be rating your level of confidence for each competency (skill). Fill in the circle for the number that corresponds with your confidence on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 equaling not confident, and 5 equaling very confident. Rate each skill, then click Save and Exit at the bottom of the page, or Save and Continue to rate the next page (if your assessment has more than one).

After you have completed your assessment, some courses will automatically be recommended to you. You may select from these courses, or you always have the option of choosing from the entire course catalog by clicking on the Course Catalog link on the left menu bar. Click on a course title for more information about that course. To register for a course and add it to your My Courses page, click on the word "Register" in this course information section.
*Tip - Any words that are underlined and in red are links you can click on for further information, or to perform the action indicated by the words (i.e. "Register").
Please pay special attention to any information in bold on the course information page. This normally gives you valuable course completion information.

Once you have selected a course or courses you want to take, access the courses by clicking "My Courses" on the left menu bar. This is your main transcript page. Current courses appear on the main page. To begin an online course, click the "launch" button beneath the course title.
To view your completed courses, click the link at the top of the "My Courses" page. Here, you can print off a certificate of completion, when available.
Click "LMS Activity Report" at the top of the "My Courses" page to print off a copy of all of your LMS activities, including your current, recommended or completed courses and programs, any Non-LMS courses you have entered into your transcript, and your most recent assessment.
